Almost everyone has heard of the magical splendor of Sigiriya Fortress perched on its mountain overlooking the tropical forest. The lying lion that has guarded the fortress from time immemorial. As the folklores this place was the fortress of a regional Yaksha leader and after thousands of years it has covered by the forest naturally and become ruined. But however by considering the poets wrote in Katapathpawra in Sigiriya it is observed that this place has discovered by many people by time to time but, due to the precious frescoes painted on the rock and the mechanism unidentified water fountains, it’s value is still remain unchanged until today.
Archeologicalevidences(over 34000 years ago) of the oldest civilization called Mesolithic Hunters,were found in Balangoda area and revealed that they have spent a hunting life. They have used caves such as Batadombalena&Paahiyangala as their permanent shelters.
However there is a nice and clear order of the Sri Lankan Kingdoms after the arrival of King Vijaya from India which occurred in 400 BC. According to that the flow of the historical Sri Lankan Kingdoms is Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambadeniya, Yapahuwa, Kurunegala, Gampola and Kotte.
What is mentioned above is a brief description of the Sri Lankan history. Apart from the historical values Birds sanctuaries such as Yala, Kumana, Wilpattu, Muthurajawela, Preserves such as Sinharaja, Habarana, Wilpattu, Horton Planes, lodes of gems, natural beaches such as Unawatuna, Marble beach, Hikkaduwa, Polhena, Negombo, Nilaweli, Water falls such as Bambarakanda, Dunhida, Diyaluma, are some of the other values to be considered Sri Lanka as a spanking country. Why Sri Lanka is well known as a wonderful country in the world is, it is situated near by the equator and it is not getting affected by the seasons as well.“The Pearl of the Indian Ocean” was the gifted name given by the explorers those who quested in Sri Lanka. In addition to that since Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country there are some cultural values too. Some of them are the Kandy Dalada Maligawa which has the important tooth relic of Lord Buddha, Sripadaya as per the Buddhist believe Lord Buddha has kept his foot print at the top of this mountain, Kandy Perahara and etc.
As a Sri Lankan I am very proud. Because, I am living in a country which has all the values to be called as the most precious and most gifted country in the world.
